Stone inlay work is an art wherein, semi precious stones are cut into fine slivers and inlaid into marble. Mostly the inlay work is done in flora shape. The slivers of the semi precious stones are finely cut into the shape of petals, leaves and stem, and inlaid with such intricacy that no gap is seen.
This art is known as Pacchikari. It came to Agra from the Persian Gulf when Shah Jahan chose to build the Taj Mahal. A lot of this art can be found on the walls of Taj Mahal. Thus the market in Agra is flooded with products with this kind of art.
